How to choose a reliable bank or financial institution to place your funds?

Unfortunately a lot of banks in my country are all the same. The only thing we are doing here is just choosing the one that is more manageable and have our money deposited in them because there is no way you're going to keep all of our money at home. If it is possible to save all my money at home, I wouldn't even have a dime saved in the bank.
